Mei was instantly wide awake. "Alright! Let me get your brother." She dashed away, returning a moment later with the slightly groggy man in tow. "Come on, Cam. I'll take you to the hospital," he said, going to his sister and very gently helping her to her feet. "Just lean against me."
"I know it does, Sweetie." Mei kissed her cheek then handed Gabrial a suitcase they had packed in advance. "I'm going to stay here and rouse the little ones. I'll make sure to call your parents and they'll meet you at the hospital."
"Keep breathing," he prompted her. "Just like Mei taught you." They reached the hospital a few minutes later and Gabrial raced to get a nurse. Before Cam could collect herself, she was hurried into a wheelchair and raced into the emergence room.
"We're taking her into delivery right now." She found herself wheeled down the hall at incredible speed. While she moaned and writhed with the pain of her contractions, she was changed into a hospital gown and put into a delivery room.
Her brother winced but said nothing. The doctor arrived just about then and began giving Cam instructions in a calm, quiet voice. Not long after, she felt a tremendous pressure and then...release. The thin wail of a baby filled the room.
One of the nurses pulled down her mask, smiling at the young girl. "We'll move you to a room immediately. We'll have to take your baby for just a little while to do her checkups and then we'll bring her right back."
The nurse took her away and a couple other nurses arrived. After gently washing Cam down, they wheeled her into a private room. Her parents were there waiting for her.
"Did everything go alright?" Eiro asked her, handing his wife a handkerchief so she could wipe her rather teary eyes. "Where's the baby?" "They took her away to do her little checkups. She'll be here momentarily," Gabrial answered.
Eiro opened his mouth to say something but just then the door opened and the newborn, decked out in her first outfit, was wheeled into the room by a nurse. She bowed to the family then quickly left to give them some time alone.
"She's just as beautiful as her mommy," Eiro said, leaning down and kissing his daughter's forehead. "I'm going to go see if Mei's here yet." Gabrial kissed his sister as well then departed. "Why don't you get some rest, Mei?"
"Because it'll be easier on everyone. Cam won't remember having the baby...she won't remember being with me...she can move on with her life and be happy."
"You both know...that there aren't any other options. Because my blood is in that child's veins...she'll be an outcast forever. She'll never ever be ablt to rise above the earth."
"What exactly are we supposed to tell her when she wakes up? She's in a hospital? And the nurses--" "All the people who have interacted with her are my minions in disguise. They'll continue to care for her and they'll enforce the lie." "What lie?" "She was in a minor accident and was knocked unconcious. She was brought here to be safe. The simplier the lie, the easier it will be to eventually forget about."
"Maybe. But she won't have the pain that goes with it. In time, I'm sure she'll be able to transfer that love to someone else. And she won't have a child burdening her."
"I dont know, I haven't really decided yet." Eiro kissed his granddaughter's cheek then turned, holding her out to Lucifer. He took her slowly, staring down at his daughter, a slightly goofy smile on his face.
"I love you too..." ***** Lucifer rocked his daughter gently, smoothing her soft hair back from her face. "Yup...you definitly look just like your mother," he said softly. There was a knock on his bedroom door and his faithful general entered. "Is that--?" "Yes." Lucifer smiled and brought her over. "The new princess of hell." Beelzebub smiled slightly. "What are you going to name her?" "Lucy, of course."
"Well of course. I want you to tell all the demons that Lucy has arrived." "Of course." "And have some of the more trustworthy succubi set up a suitable nursery for her. Oh. And call Lilith in here, will you? I need to speak with her."
"Yes." He turned to her. "I want you to take a couple of your best followers and go to the earth. Lucy is going to need milk and I will not have her drinking from a Succubi's breast; their milk is poisonous."
Twenty-year-old Camael brushed a lock of her long black hair out of her face, leaving a streak of blue paint over her temple. She put a few more strokes on the canvas, then stepped back. The painting was of a young geisha with her head on her hand, looking up into the branches of a cherry tree. Cam smiled and turned to clean up her paints.
"Well, they might have gone better if I hadn't angered the teacher again." "What now?" Hiro shrugged. "He doesn't like that I don't bother doing all those damn color excersizes. I don't need to 'warm up' before I paint. It's not like I'm going to pull a muscle from lifting a tiny detail brush."
She laughed. "Oh, you rebel." She kissed him again. "Well, I suppose you can always keep your job at the coffee shop while I sell paintings to rich old people."
On her left ring finger was a thin band of silver and gold twisted together. Two small diamonds were set next to a larger tear-shaped diamond in the center.
"No. I was just REALLY hoping you would." He smiled. "But, before that, I have to run to the coffee shop for a couple hours to cover someone's shift. I'll be back around six."
She smiled and went into her bathroom to wash up in her shower. She cursed when only cold water came out. She'd have to get Hiro to look at the water heater again.
She sighed as she finished washing up and got out. She dried herself off and pulled on the silk robe she'd bought during her semester studying in China.
She loved him for it. She smiled again after admiring the ring once more, then went into her room to put on some clean clothes and pick out her outfit for that night.
She had to wonder if her children would have that much energy. ***** "Lucy! Want to go shopping?" The girl's head shot up and she dropped the dolls she was playing with, running to her father. He laughed and scooped her up. "Is that a yes?" "Yes! I want a new dress! Please, Papa?" "Alright." Lucifer smiled at his daughter. ********
She took a small step back, blinking rapidly at Cam. It took the older woman a few moments to realize what was so strange about the girl's eyes: she had one blue eye and one black eye. Cam smiled at her. "Thats very good advice. How about you wait right here with me until your parents find you? Okay? You don't have to talk to me, just wait."
"Lucy!" Cam turned as a man suddenly dashed up to them, kneeling in front of the small girl. He had short white hair and bangs that seemed to hang into his eyes. But because his head was tipped at such an angle, Cam couldn't really see his face.
"I've told you many times not to run off like that, Lucy. You had me worried sick." He scooped the small girl into his arms. "Thank you--" He looked up and broke off, his eyes widening a little. Cam too was knocked off balance. The man...he looked so familiar...
"Um..." She shook her head. "Its no problem. She didn't seem too scared, so I figured her parents were around here somewhere..." She smiled at him a little. "I'll let you get back to your shopping." She turned away.
The little girl smiled back and, for a moment, Cam was rocked back on her heels. This girl had her smile. "I'm Lucy. So the next time we meet, we won't be strangers, kay?"
Cam smiled. "Okay." She waved and turned back and walked to the dressing rooms to try on the dresses. Lucy grinned and waved back as Cam left. "She was nice and pretty."
"Because not all children like her. You grew up with her so you obviously don't mind." He paused. "Actually, now that I think of it...you're almost old enough to get your familiar as well."
"Ahah! Only if the park isn't crowded, Lucy, and you know it." 'Awww...come on, Lucifer!' "Don't give me that. You tried to eat someone last time." 'I was hungry.'

There was a pause then she heard quick footsteps padding down the hall. The door opened a moment later.
"Cam? Is something wrong?"
"I think... I think I'm in labor..."
She winced as she did so. "It realy hurts."
"I know it does, Sweetie." Mei kissed her cheek then handed Gabrial a suitcase they had packed in advance. "I'm going to stay here and rouse the little ones. I'll make sure to call your parents and they'll meet you at the hospital."
"What about Lucifer?"
She glanced at Gabiral with worry written on her face. "I don't have any way to get a hold of him but I'll try."
"Sorry...I just...I want him there..."
"I know, I'll try my very hardest. I promise. Now go on. We'll follow you." Gabrial nodded and took his sister to the car.
She gripped his arm tightly. "Oh...this hurts..."
"It'll be over soon." He got her into the car then hurried to the other side. He sped the entire way to the hospital.
She took deep breaths as he drove. "Oh...God..." She clenched her hands.
"Keep breathing," he prompted her. "Just like Mei taught you."
They reached the hospital a few minutes later and Gabrial raced to get a nurse. Before Cam could collect herself, she was hurried into a wheelchair and raced into the emergence room.
She closed her eyes as she was taken down. "Oh, god..."
"Are you her husband?" a nurse asked Gabrial.
"No, she's my sister."
"Well, she's about to deliver this baby."
"Oh...but...Luci..he's not here..." Cam gripped Gabrial's arm tightly. "I want him here...please..."
He squeezed her hand.
"I know. I'll stay with you until he comes, alright?"
"Okay." She cried out as a contraction hit her.
"We're taking her into delivery right now." She found herself wheeled down the hall at incredible speed. While she moaned and writhed with the pain of her contractions, she was changed into a hospital gown and put into a delivery room.
She cried out again. "Oh...this hurts."
Gabrial took her hand. "Just squeeze as hard as you want."
She immediately gripped it hard as she cried out again.
Her brother winced but said nothing.
The doctor arrived just about then and began giving Cam instructions in a calm, quiet voice. Not long after, she felt a tremendous pressure and then...release. The thin wail of a baby filled the room.
She let out a deep breath as tears slid down her face. "Oh... Strong lungs..."
"She's a healthy little girl." The doctor handed her the wrapped baby. A tiny girl with white fuzz on her head squinted at Cam.
"Oh..." Tears slid down her face. "Oh, she's beautiful." She showed her to Gabrial. "Look, she has her daddy's hair."
He laughed quietly.
"She certainly does. She has his scowl too. Oh, look." He touched the corner of her eye. She had one blue eye and one black eye.
Camael laughed. "I blame her father for that oddity." Happy tears slid down her face.
One of the nurses pulled down her mask, smiling at the young girl.
"We'll move you to a room immediately. We'll have to take your baby for just a little while to do her checkups and then we'll bring her right back."
Cam nodded. "Okay." She held the baby out to the nurse to take.
The nurse took her away and a couple other nurses arrived. After gently washing Cam down, they wheeled her into a private room. Her parents were there waiting for her.
She smiled at them. "Hi, Mom...Daddy."
They fell upon her, hugging her and kissing her, each talking a mile a minute.
"Slow down! I just went through the incredible pain of giving birth and I'm tired..." She smiled at her parents. "One at a time."
"Did everything go alright?" Eiro asked her, handing his wife a handkerchief so she could wipe her rather teary eyes. "Where's the baby?"
"They took her away to do her little checkups. She'll be here momentarily," Gabrial answered.
"It went fine. It just was really painful. I don't know how mother did it."
Eiro opened his mouth to say something but just then the door opened and the newborn, decked out in her first outfit, was wheeled into the room by a nurse. She bowed to the family then quickly left to give them some time alone.
"Oh, she's much more adorable now." Cam smiled softly.
"She's just as beautiful as her mommy," Eiro said, leaning down and kissing his daughter's forehead.
"I'm going to go see if Mei's here yet." Gabrial kissed his sister as well then departed.
"Why don't you get some rest, Mei?"
"I probably should, but I want to stay up for a bit."
"You're waiting to see if Lucifer's going to show up aren't you?"
"I know he'd be here if he could..."
Kira and Eiro exchanged looks.
"Sleep. We'll wake you up if he comes. Promise."
"You promise?"
"Promise." Eiro smiled at her.
"Thank you, Daddy."
"You're welcome, sweetie." Cam smiled and shut her eyes, falling asleep almost instantly.
Kira picked up the little girl. "She's really cute."
"Yes, she is." The two jumped and turned quickly. Lucifer was standing against the window, a little smile on his face.
"She's rather upset you missed the birth, you know."
"I didn't miss it. I delivered her." He smiled again. "Masks are a wonderful thing."
Kira laughed. "You are a devious man, Lucifer. She would have liked to know, though."
"No...it'll be easier this way."
"It?"
"The reason I'm here is because I'm taking my daughter...and Cam's memories with me."
"What?" Kira stared at him. "Why?"
"Because it'll be easier on everyone. Cam won't remember having the baby...she won't remember being with me...she can move on with her life and be happy."
Kira looked down at her daughter. "Are you so sure about that?"
"You both know...that there aren't any other options. Because my blood is in that child's veins...she'll be an outcast forever. She'll never ever be ablt to rise above the earth."
"We know..." Kira cuddled her granddaughter.
"What exactly are we supposed to tell her when she wakes up? She's in a hospital? And the nurses--"
"All the people who have interacted with her are my minions in disguise. They'll continue to care for her and they'll enforce the lie."
"What lie?"
"She was in a minor accident and was knocked unconcious. She was brought here to be safe. The simplier the lie, the easier it will be to eventually forget about."
"She'll still love you. Deep down inside."
"Maybe. But she won't have the pain that goes with it. In time, I'm sure she'll be able to transfer that love to someone else. And she won't have a child burdening her."
Kira nodded and turned to Eiro. "Would you like to hold her?"
He nodded and took his newest granddaughter, craddling her gently.
"You'd better take good care of her Lucifer."
"I will. Don't worry."
Kira leaned into her husband. "She's such a sweet little girl."
"Yes, she is." He stroked her soft white hair.
"What will you name her, Lucifer?"
"I dont know, I haven't really decided yet." Eiro kissed his granddaughter's cheek then turned, holding her out to Lucifer. He took her slowly, staring down at his daughter, a slightly goofy smile on his face.
Kira chuckled. "Remind you of anyone?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Eiro said in a non-chalant tone.
Kira shoved his arm lightly. She turned to Lucifer. "Take good care of her..."
"I will. She is my daughter after all." He looked up at Kira. "Take care of Cam...alright?"
"We will. She is our daughter, after all."
Lucifer smiled a little and with a tiny puff of smoke, he and the newborn were gone.
Kira's smile dropped as she turned to Eiro. "How can we keep this from her?"
He was quiet for a moment.
"I don't like it but...he's right, Kira. It will be better for her if she just forgets him and the baby."
Kira sighed. "I know...but..."
He stepped up to her, hugging her gently.
She held him tightly. "I love you, Eiro..."
"I love you too..."

Lucifer rocked his daughter gently, smoothing her soft hair back from her face.
"Yup...you definitly look just like your mother," he said softly. There was a knock on his bedroom door and his faithful general entered.
"Is that--?"
"Yes." Lucifer smiled and brought her over. "The new princess of hell." Beelzebub smiled slightly.
"What are you going to name her?"
"Lucy, of course."
Beelzebub shook his head. "You have a twisted sense of humor."
"Well of course. I want you to tell all the demons that Lucy has arrived."
"Of course."
"And have some of the more trustworthy succubi set up a suitable nursery for her. Oh. And call Lilith in here, will you? I need to speak with her."
Beelzebub nodded and left. A few minutes later, Lilith came in. "You requested me, my lord?"
"Yes." He turned to her. "I want you to take a couple of your best followers and go to the earth. Lucy is going to need milk and I will not have her drinking from a Succubi's breast; their milk is poisonous."
Lilith smiled. "Very well." She stepped forward to look at the little child. "She's pretty."
Lucifer grinned.
"I know. She'll be beautiful when she's grown. Just like her mother."
"You really loved this girl then? The angel Camael?"
Lucifer laughed.
"Of course not. But she was well-suited for giving me an heir."
"Ah. Good." Lilith smirked, then left the room.
Lucifer turned his attention back to his daughter.
"My beautiful Lucy..."

The painting was of a young geisha with her head on her hand, looking up into the branches of a cherry tree. Cam smiled and turned to clean up her paints.
"Painting again?" She looked up as Hiro, her old classmate and long-time boyfriend, entered the room, smiling.
"What do you expect? Its my major." She finished washing up, then went to give him a kiss. "How were your classes today?"
"Well, they might have gone better if I hadn't angered the teacher again."
"What now?" Hiro shrugged.
"Or I could just quit and you could be my sugar-mama." He grinned at her, pulling her close for a kiss.
"Ha ha..." She nuzzled his neck.
"So, are you done for the day?"
"Yup. Its just got to dry and then I'll take it down to the shop to get it framed."
"Good." He pressed a soft kiss to her mouth.
She smiled into the kiss. "Why?"
She felt something cool slide onto her finger.
She looked down at her hand. "What--?"
On her left ring finger was a thin band of silver and gold twisted together. Two small diamonds were set next to a larger tear-shaped diamond in the center.
She gasped. "Hiro?"
"Cam...will you marry me?" he whispered to her softly, taking her hand.
Her breath slid out of her. "Oh..." She stared at him, amazed. "YES!" She threw her arms around him.
He laughed loudly and happily, picking her up and spinning her around a few times.
She laughed as she pressed her mouth to his in a happy kiss.
He returned it, grinning when they broke.
"You've made me the happiest man on earth, Cam."
"And you've made me the happiest woman on earth." She kissed him again.
He pulled her tightly up against him, deepening the kiss slightly.
When they broke, she laughed. "I guess this means we need to go out and celebrate."
"I already have that covered. I made reservations at your very favorite restuarant for eight o'clock."
She grinned at him. "You knew I'd say yes?"
"No. I was just REALLY hoping you would." He smiled. "But, before that, I have to run to the coffee shop for a couple hours to cover someone's shift. I'll be back around six."
She smiled at him and bit her lip as she traced patterns on his chest. "Then I guess I'll have PLENTY of time to get ready."
"You're the world's biggest tease, you know that?" He yanked her close, kissing her hard. "I'll make you pay for that later."
She grinned as she kissed him teasingly. "I'm sure you will..."
"Wench." He scowled at her slightly. "What time are you taking your painting to the framers?"
"As soon as its dry. Or tomorrow. Depends on how fast it dries. Why?"
"I was just curious, that's all." He kissed her once more. "I'll see you later, alright?"
"Okay. Should I dress up?"
"Why not?" He smiled and, after one last kiss and a goodbye, he left.
She smiled and went into her bathroom to wash up in her shower. She cursed when only cold water came out. She'd have to get Hiro to look at the water heater again.
The damn pilot light kept going out and the result was freezing cold water.
She sighed as she finished washing up and got out. She dried herself off and pulled on the silk robe she'd bought during her semester studying in China.
As she tied the sash, she caught sight of the new ring on her hand and smiled. He'd finally proposed to her...
She'd half expected him to do it on graduation. He'd been so nervous talking to her that night.
But he was so sweet. He was always sweet to her.
She loved him for it. She smiled again after admiring the ring once more, then went into her room to put on some clean clothes and pick out her outfit for that night.
She had to find something that would drive him crazy. But after ten minutes of searching, she just couldn't find anything good enough.
Then she grinned slowly. Maybe she could go shopping? After all, she'd just sold a painting for quite a good chunk of change.
She had plenty of time. Plus, she'd seen a really cute dress at a shop the other day that she had thought Hiro might like.
She should see if Mei wanted a break from her kids.
But, then again, she'd just had her fourth child a few weeks ago. She might be tired.
"Never hurts to call..." She smiled and dialed her sister.
It rang three times then clicked.
"Hello?" Mei said.
"Hey, Mei! How are you doing?"
"Oh, Cam! I'm doing alright. Worn out but that's what happens when you have four kids running--Sam! Stop picking on your sister!"
Cam laughed. "Yeah. Are you too busy to go shopping with me? Its okay if you are."
"God, I'd love to get out of here and go with you but Gabrial's gone off to do...something, I can't remember what."
She laughed. "Its okay. I can go by myself. I'll stop by afterwards okay?"
"If you bring me something coated in chocolate, I'll love you forever."
"Chocolate coated chocolate?"
"Perfect!" Mei laughed. "And lots of it. I need the energy--Sam! What did I tell you?!"
She chuckled. "I'll let you go discipline your oldest. Talk to you later."
"Bye! Sam!"
Cam laughed as she hung up.
She honestly didn't know how her sister could keep up with all her kids.
Not that she minded kids. She just thought her neices and nephews were incredibly active.
She had to wonder if her children would have that much energy.
*****
"Lucy! Want to go shopping?" The girl's head shot up and she dropped the dolls she was playing with, running to her father. He laughed and scooped her up. "Is that a yes?"
"Yes! I want a new dress! Please, Papa?"
"Alright." Lucifer smiled at his daughter.
********
Cam walked into the shop that had the dress she'd seen the other day. She scanned the racks, looking for anything else that was cute.
She dug out a red dress that looked good.
As she turned to another rack, a small someone ran smack-dab into her legs.
She blinked. "Oh, hello, sweetie. Where's your mum and dad?" She knelt down before the little girl.
She took a small step back, blinking rapidly at Cam. It took the older woman a few moments to realize what was so strange about the girl's eyes: she had one blue eye and one black eye. Her long white braids hung just past her waist and she was wearing the cutest little sundress Cam had ever seen. But her eyes were so strange...
Cam frowned. So strange...but familiar.
"I'm not supposed to talk to strangers," the little girl said after a moment.
Cam smiled at her. "Thats very good advice. How about you wait right here with me until your parents find you? Okay? You don't have to talk to me, just wait."
"Parent."
"What?"
"I don't have a mama, just a papa."
"Okay, well we'll just wait for your dad then."
The little girl stared at Cam for a moment.
"...okay," she finally said with a little nod.
Cam smiled and stood up. She looked around for a man who looked like Lucy.
"Lucy!" Cam turned as a man suddenly dashed up to them, kneeling in front of the small girl. He had short white hair and bangs that seemed to hang into his eyes. But because his head was tipped at such an angle, Cam couldn't really see his face.
"Is this your little girl then?"
"What's your name?" she heard the little girl call after her.
She turned back and smiled. "My name is Camael."
Lucifer took a deep breath, setting his daughter on her feet and kneeling in front of her.
"Lucy...you can't see her anymore, okay?"
She pouted. "Why not?"
"It's very complicated, but I need you to listen to me, alright?"
"Okay..."
Lucifer hugged his daughter, stroking her white hair.
"When you're older, I promise, I'll explain it to you," he said softly, closing his eyes.
She hugged him back. "I love you, Papa."
"I love you too, my little Lucy-san." He stood, her in his arms, tossing her into the air and catching her to make her laugh.
She giggled. "You're silly!"
"Of course. But so are you." He smiled at his young daughter, kissing her cheek. "Do you want to go to the park to play?"
She nodded her head. "Yes."
"Alright then. We'll go to your favorite one, the one with all those big slides."
She clapped her hands. "Goody!"
"But this time, if they're are children there, I'm not bringing out the snake, alright?"
"Oh, but why not?"
"Because not all children like her. You grew up with her so you obviously don't mind." He paused. "Actually, now that I think of it...you're almost old enough to get your familiar as well."
"REALLY?!?!?!" She bounced. "Oh, can I? Can I, Papa?"
He laughed.
"Of course you can. But you have to be marked with the symbol of your familiar and it's going to hurt."
She nodded. "I know. Lilith was telling me."
"What did you have in mind?" He paid for the dresses she had picked out as he spoke then picked her up again, carrying her outside. "A snake?"
"Well, I DO like yours...but I don't know..."
"You don't have to decide right this minute," he said in a reassuring tone, kissing her cheek.
"I know." She smiled up at him.
A large serpent's head suddenly poked out of Lucifer's shirt, it's head resting on Lucy's arm.
She giggled. "Hello." She petted its head.
The serpent hissed softly, seeming to smile up at Lucy.
'We haven't played together in a while, Miss Lucy,' the snake whispered.
"I know. But we can play today!"
"Ahah! Only if the park isn't crowded, Lucy, and you know it."
'Awww...come on, Lucifer!'
"Don't give me that. You tried to eat someone last time."
'I was hungry.'
Lucy giggled. "You know Papa's right. I promise, though. The whole afternoon of play if no one's around." She crossed her heart solemly.
'Wonderful!'
They reached the park and, luckily, no one was there. Lucifer set Lucy down in the sand, the snake following soon after.
She giggled and played with Lucifer's snake. She was such a cute little girl.
Lucifer sat down on a park bench, watching her play, a little smile on his face. He loved this little girl so much...
