She scowled and lightly threw a hat at him. "Don't you use that tone with me, Gabrial. I'm almost your wife, not your puppy." She pulled down her eyelid, sticking her tongue out at him.
"I still remember you dragging me to your graduate classes," Gabrial said with a smile as he went back into the kitchen to make the curry. "You always brought tons of coloring books so I'd stay quiet."
"Oh, he always gives me what I want in the end," Lucy said with a grin. They reached Cam's school and Lucy released her hand. "I'll meet you out here at exactly three o'clock."
"Lucy." The girl turned and smiled at her general. "Bee-san!" She threw herself at him. "Lucy, stop. You're needed." Her face turned serious and she nodded, letting him lead her away. ************* At three o'clock, Cam left the school. But Lucy wasn't there.
The two women headed for the ice cream shop and got their usual treats before heading to the park. As they were finishing up their cones, a group of older boys appeared on the path in front of them.
"Well then, we'll just have to take you by force." Cam gasped as the grip on her arm tightened and she was pulled into the middle of the group. "I think you gentlemen would do well to let the girl go," said a deep voice that was filled with power.
The boys parted, looking behind them. A tall man was standing where Lucy had been just moments before. His white hair hung past his waist in a single long braid, his eyes bleeding slowly to black.
"Who the hell are YOU?" "I'm the one...who will take your souls to hell..." Two huge black wings burst from his shoulders. The men screamed and turned, running. With a single beat of his wings, the man rose into the air and descended on the group. Cam turned her face away as their screams filled the air.
The group of boys were gone. The man was standing where they had been, his black wings drooping to either side of him. His head was bowed, his eyes shut.
He raised his head and gave her a small smile. His eyes were now a searing steel color that seemed to look right into her. "Gomen, Cam-chan. I didn't mean to scare you."
Cam heard a step and the phone was suddenly yanked away from her ear. She gasped and looked up to see her father standing there, his blue eyes flashing.

She heard Mei laugh.
"No, I think we're set. We went out and bought some stuff earlier...and I think we went a little overboard."
"Oh, damn. You're supposed to let the grandmother spoil the baby."
"Don't worry, you'll get plenty of chances," Mei promised.
"Alright." Kira laughed. "I'll be over shortly."
"Alright. See you then." Mei hung up.
"Mother?" Gabrial asked as he changed Sammael.
"Of course. She's on her way over to see the baby."
He smiled. "Was she mad that he didn't need anything right now?"
"Yup. She said she was supposed to be able to spoil him."
"She'll get her chance soon enough."
"Of course. They'll be taking care of him during our honeymoon, after all." She smiled and leaned over, kissing him lightly.
"Exactly. So expect him to have tons of toys."
"You mean on top of the thousands of toys we already bought him?" She pointed to the small mountain of things they had bought that day.
"Yes." He laughed and kissed his wife softly before finishing up with his son.
He cooed softly, tugging at fistfulls of his father's hair.
"He's so cute," Mei giggled, kissing the baby's soft cheek.
"Just like his mama."
Mei blinked at Gabrial then blushed.
"Oh, hush. Flattery won't get you anywhere with me."
"Liar." He kissed her softly. "I love you."
"I love you too." Sammael cooed. "But of course I love you more, Sam," said with a giggle.
Gabrial tickled Sammael, then tossed him lightly in the air.
He shrieked in laughter, wiggling in his father's arms.
"Don't throw him around too much or he'll throw up on you."
"No he won't." Gabrial bounced him a little, then set him in his chair.
"You'll be eating your words when he does it," she said, giving Gabrial's backside a little pinch.
"Hey!" Gabrial scowled and went to the fridge. "Are you hungry?"
"It depends. What do you plan on making?"
"Um... I'm not sure... Maybe I'll just let mother cook when she gets here."
"You would make her do something like that," Mei laughed as she folded Sammael's new clothes.
"Well...she IS my mother..."
"You're nineteen, aren't you? You still can't make a simple dinner?"
"I can, I just don't know what to make."
"I'll make us some curry and rice then." She smiled and stood.
"Oh, I can make that. Sit."
She scowled and lightly threw a hat at him.
"Don't you use that tone with me, Gabrial. I'm almost your wife, not your puppy." She pulled down her eyelid, sticking her tongue out at him.
"And that it such a mature look for a wife and mother."
She giggled.
"I'm cute. I can get away with it. Make it spicy." She sat back down next to Sammael and continued folding.
"Yes ma'am." He started mixing the ingredients together.
"Tomorrow I think we should go take a look at that house Lucifer gave us. It's not far from here."
"Good idea. We'll need to do what we want to the house before we move in."
"I'll admit, I still feel a little sad about leaving this apartment. I've lived here my whole life."
"Every new begining comes from some other beginings end."
Mei laughed softly.
"Yes, well, I'm not going to sell this place."
"Why not?"
"Because it was a gift from my father. He left it to my mother and I just before he died. It's all I really have of him."
"Do you want to rent it out?"
She thought for a moment.
"I guess that could work. It'll earn a little extra money."
"And we'll be picky about the residents."
"Oh, of course. Actually, we'd better keep it quiet from Lucifer. He'll probably want to rent it."
"True. And I wouldn't mind, except for Cam."
"What do you mean, except for Cam?" She picked up the rattle her son had dropped, handing it back.
"It'd make it too easy for him to try to seduce her when she's older."
"That's a good point, I suppose. But...let me just say--and don't take this the wrong way--what would be so bad about them falling in love?"
"Nothing, really. But I'm just a suspicious person and Father wouldn't like it."
"Lucifer...he's not really bad. He's just doing his job, like all of us."
"I know, thats why, if I see anything, I'll look the otherway. Most of the time."
Mei smiled and stood, going over to him and giving him a kiss.
"He'll thank you for that. And Cam will too...later."
"Yeah, yeah... I'll do almost anything to keep my sisters happy." Just then there was a knock on the door.
"Oh, that's probably you're mother." She kissed him lightly then hurried to the door, pulling it open.
Kira was in fact, at the door and she was holding a yellow gift bag tied with a bow.
"Didn't I tell you you didn't have to bring anything?" Mei laughed, stepping aside so she could enter.
"Oh, its nothing practical." She kissed Mei's cheek.
"Hello, Mother." Gabriel appeared, smiling. "What's this?"
"A present for my grandson. Where is he?" She hugged her son.
"He's playing in his highchair."
"Oh, good." She went over to him and smiled. "Hello, there. What did you two name him?"
"His name is Sammael."
"Hello, Sammael...I'm Kira, I'm your grandmother." She set the bag in front of him and started untying the bow. "I brought you a present."
The tiny boy looked up at Kira and smiled widely at her.
She smiled back and pulled a very soft, light brown teddy bear out of the bag. "This is a teddy bear just for you."
He squealed happily and patted it with his chubby hands.
"Oh, he's so cute!" Mei gushed. "We didn't get him any animals."
"Grandmotherly instinct is always impressive, and I'm a young one."
"Yes, and you'll stay young forever," Mei said with a smile. "You're an angel, after all."
Kira laughed. "Yes, I know. I was refering to the fact that I'm only thirty-nine. I was only twenty when Gabrial was born afterall."
"I still remember you dragging me to your graduate classes," Gabrial said with a smile as he went back into the kitchen to make the curry. "You always brought tons of coloring books so I'd stay quiet."
"If I hadn't I'd have gotten evil looks for 'boring' you. I know you didn't color all that much."
"No, I paid attention and helped you with your finals," he said with a grin.
"Your papa has a very big head, Sammael," Mei said with a giggle.
Kira bopped her son. "Behave. You just liked getting to hear me argue with the professor."
"That was fun too," he admitted with a laugh.
Kira smiled and tickled Sam with the teddy bear.
He giggled, burying his face in the soft fur.
"So, grandmother, what do you think of your first grandson?" Mei asked, sitting down next to the baby.
"He's adorable. But just remember, you can't really guilt him by telling him about your labor."
Mei laughed softly.
"Yeah, I know. But that's alright."
"But he is adorable. Lucifer was very kind to do this for you."
"That's because Lucifer is a very kind person. But it's not a side of himself he lets people see very often."
"No. I know that. He is after the scape goat for everything."
"That's the price of falling to hell," Mei agreed softly.
Kira nodded. "But on to cherrier subjects. Where are you two going to live now that you have another member of your family?"
"Well, actually, Lucifer showed the good part of himself twice in two days." Gabrial held out the deed to the house.
Kira blinked. "Oh my. That was very...kind of him."
"See? Just like I said!" Mei smiled. "Although, knowing him, he'll probably want us the thank him for the rest of eternity to make up for it."
Kira laughed. "Its a possibility."
"But, since I plan on thanking him forever for giving us Sammael, I don't mind," Mei added with a giggle.
Kira laughed as well and picked up her grandson. "He is a cute little baby."
"Yes, he is. He looks just like his papa."
"I think he'll have darker hair though. I'm still trying to figure out how my son got blonde hair."
"Because he's weird."
"Hey!"
"Well then, you or Dad must have had blonde hair somewhere in your bloodlines."
Kira shook her head. "Not me. We're traditional Japanese all the way back."
"Well then Dad has it somewhere." He paused. "Oh...wait. He's a clone."
Kira giggled. "Then its Shinji and Narikage's bloodlines. Silly."
"Oh, right. I'll just have to ask Shinji then." Mei giggled.
"You know, for a smart man, you aren't very smart sometimes, Gabrial."
Kira shook her head and bounced her grandson.
He giggled happily at that.
"I'm plenty smart, thank you." Mei made a face at him in reply.
"Hush and keep making that curry."
"My son is cooking? Has the world ended?"
"Hey!"
"I tried to make it myself but he wouldn't let me."
"At least he's learned some manners." Kira bounced Sam again.
"Well, he was planning on making YOU do it."
Kira whapped her son. "Good thing he started cooking."
"Ow! I wasn't really going to!"
"Yes you were," Mei said calmly.
"Yes, Mother." Mei laughed softly.
Kira sat at the table, playing with her grandson.
"By the way, Kira, will you look after Sammael for us after the wedding?"
"Of course! I'd be offended if you asked anyone else!" Kira smiled.
"I thought it would be fine but I wanted to make sure. Just don't spoil him TOO much."
"Oh, I won't." Kira smiled sweetly.
"That's a lie!" Gabrial said. Mei hit him lightly.
"Shut up you and cook."
"Depends upon the individuals definition."
"Spoil him...just don't buy him enough stuff to fill up his bedroom," Mei said.
"Oh, fine."
"Don't let Dad spoil him too much either," Gabrial called. "He's a sucker for a crying kid."
"You take all the fun out of being a grandparent."
"Ignore him. I give you permission to spoil him to your heart's content."
"Oh goody!"
"Mei! Don't tell her that!"
"Cook," she said, sticking her tongue out at him.
"Parents really have no say in what dgoes on while a grandparent is in charge."
Mei laughed.
"No, they really don't."

*five years later*
"Cam! Hurry up or you'll be late for school!" Eiro bellowed up the stairs.
"I'm hurrying!" She clipped her long hair back and raced down the stairs. "Bye Daddy!"
"Your school bag!" She turned around and snatched it away. He kissed her cheek. "Have a good day."
She smiled. "You too, Daddy. Try not to make anyone cry today."
"You and your mother take all the fun out of my work." He smiled. "Go on."
"I love you too, Daddy." She kissed his cheek and dashed off.
"Cam-chan!" A young girl with white braids appeared as Cam came around the corner. "You were almost late!"
"I know, I'm sorry!" Cam smiled.
"That's okay." Lucy smiled at the older girl, taking her hand. "I forgive you because it's you."
"Oh, goody." She gave her a little hug.
"Can you play with me after school?"
"Yes. Daddy's got late classes and Mother's watching Sammael."
"Yay! Let's get ice cream then!" Lucy jumped up and down.
She laughed. "Well, after school, we'll get ice cream. You aren't making me buy again, are you?"
"Nope! Bee gave me some money today so it'll be MY treat," Lucy promised, holding up her hand.
"Good. I'm glad Bee finally gave in to your whining."
"Oh, he always gives me what I want in the end," Lucy said with a grin. They reached Cam's school and Lucy released her hand. "I'll meet you out here at exactly three o'clock."
"Alright. I'll see you then." Cam smiled and ran into school.
"Lucy." The girl turned and smiled at her general.
"Bee-san!" She threw herself at him.
"Lucy, stop. You're needed." Her face turned serious and she nodded, letting him lead her away.
*************
At three o'clock, Cam left the school.
But Lucy wasn't there.
She looked around, frowing. "Lucy?"
"Gomen!" The girl suddenly dashed up, her cheeks pink from running. "Bee caught me and I had to go with him for a bit."
"Its okay." She smiled. "I know you didn't mean to break your promise."
"Of course not." Lucy smiled and took her hand. "Let's go get ice cream and walk in the park.
"Okay." She smiled at her friend.
The two women headed for the ice cream shop and got their usual treats before heading to the park.
As they were finishing up their cones, a group of older boys appeared on the path in front of them.
Cam stepped to the side to go around them.
"Hey, you're pretty cute!" One of the boys reached out, grabbing her arm. "Go out with us."
"Sorry, I don't date groups."
Another boy laughed.
"Who said anything about dating? We just want to have a good time."
"I think you misunderstand me. I'm not interested."
"Well then, we'll just have to take you by force." Cam gasped as the grip on her arm tightened and she was pulled into the middle of the group.
"I think you gentlemen would do well to let the girl go," said a deep voice that was filled with power.
Cam tensed at the voice. It was so familiar...
The boys parted, looking behind them.
A tall man was standing where Lucy had been just moments before. His white hair hung past his waist in a single long braid, his eyes bleeding slowly to black.
She blinked. He looked like Lucy, but...how?
"Who the hell are YOU?"
"I'm the one...who will take your souls to hell..." Two huge black wings burst from his shoulders. The men screamed and turned, running. With a single beat of his wings, the man rose into the air and descended on the group. Cam turned her face away as their screams filled the air.
She covered her ears with her hands so she didn't have to hear, her eyes closed tightly.
Then, as suddenly as it had begun...the screams stopped.
She slowly lifted her hands and opened her eyes. She looked around.
The group of boys were gone. The man was standing where they had been, his black wings drooping to either side of him. His head was bowed, his eyes shut.
"E-excuse me...?"
He raised his head and gave her a small smile. His eyes were now a searing steel color that seemed to look right into her.
"Gomen, Cam-chan. I didn't mean to scare you."
"W-who are you?"
"You called me Lucy...but when I'm like this...my name is Lucifer."
"Lucifer... Oh..." She took a deep breath. "Thank you."
Lucifer arched his back and the wings disappeared.
"You're welcome." He paused. "Are you scared of me now."
"I think awed is more the word." She smiled softly.
He blinked a few times.
"...Really?"
She smiled. "Mei speaks well of you."
"Mei was the first one to see past the title." He smiled.
She smiled. "Is there a reason you've been hiding out as a girl all this time?"
"I didn't want to scare you. And...your parents didn't want me to come near you."
"Did you give them reason to think that you would do something worthy of their mistrust?"
"All I said was that I thought you were cute and they got very upset. Plus your father hates my guts."
"How old was I at the time?"
"Ten." He sat down on a nearby park bench, crossing his legs.
"That would be why." She smiled at him.
"I told them I wasn't sick and didn't mean it in a creepy sort of way but..." He shrugged. "Despite everything they still just see me as the devil."
She nudged him. "Maybe because you are?"
He grinned.
"Well, I am. But I've behaved myself when I'm with you."
"I've noticed." She smiled at him. "Well, shall we finish our walk?"
"Alright." He stood. "Just let me change back--"
She put her hand on his arm. "You don't have to."
He stopped short again, that startled look appeared on his face again.
"You...don't mind walking with me like this?"
"No. It'll help keep the creepy guys away." She smiled at him.
"Alright then...but I still get to hold your hand."
She smiled. "Okay." She held out her hand.
He smiled back and took it before tugging her lightly down the path.
******
That night, Cam was wandering the house, talking to Mei.
"So he finally let you see his real form, huh?"
"Yes. It was kind of sweet. He saved me."
Mei laughed.
"A devil in shining armor. I think that's a new one."
"Yeah. I'm glad though. It was funny, he tried to turn back into Lucy and I told him I'd feel safer if he didn't."
Cam heard a step and the phone was suddenly yanked away from her ear. She gasped and looked up to see her father standing there, his blue eyes flashing.
"Daddy!"
"Mei, she'll call you back." He clicked off the phone. "Repeat what you just said."
"A-about what?" She was frightened.
